Simeone Celebrates 700 Games in Charge of Atletico Madrid
The Argentine manager reaches another landmark as he continues his remarkable tenure at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Diego Simeone has reached an incredible 700 games as Atletico Madrid manager, cementing his status as one of the most significant figures in the club's history.
The Argentine, who took charge in December 2011, marked the occasion with a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad. Goals from Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata sealed a fitting tribute to their long-serving coach.
Simeone's achievements at Atletico read like a trophy cabinet of dreams: two La Liga titles, two Europa League triumphs, one Copa del Rey, two UEFA Super Cups, and two Spanish Super Cups. He has also led the club to two Champions League finals.
Speaking after the match, an emotional Simeone reflected on his journey: "This club has given me everything. The players, the staff, the fans - they have believed in me even in the most difficult moments. Seven hundred games, but I feel like I am just getting started."
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo paid tribute: "Diego has transformed this club. He took us from being an afterthought in Spanish football to genuine contenders on every front. His passion and commitment are unmatched."
The 700-game milestone makes Simeone one of the longest-serving managers at a single club in European football history, an increasingly rare achievement in the modern game.
